EXCAVATION

SUPPORT OF EXCAVATION
As part of the excavation process S.O.E. (Support of Excavation) refers to an engineered solution to stabilize an excavation. SOE is required for excavations that exceed safe depths and do not allow for slopping of the soil. Deep excavations require designed systems involving sheet piles and retaining walls to keep the work area safe.

DRILLING | PILES
Drilling end bearing or friction piles into stable soil or rock is a common foundation support system used in construction. End bearing piles transfer the loads through the pile down to the strong layer of soil or rock. Specialized equipment rigs drills or drives the piles through the weaker soil to the strong layer where the proper bearing capacity can be achieved.
FOUNDATION
The foundation is the lowest part of the building or structure that is in direct contact with the soil. The foundation is responsible for transferring the load from the structure safely to the soil. Generally, there are two types of foundations, shallow and deep. Shallow foundations bear on the present stratum while deep foundation requires piles to transfer loads to a deeper depth where the bearing capacities are sufficient.
